About Lumeria

Our mission

Your skin is yours. The story it tells, the way it shifts, the truth beneath the surface: all of it belongs to you. Yet understanding it has always required someone else’s permission: an appointment, a schedule, a price, a door you had to be let through.

We’re ending that.

Lumeria puts your skin entirely in your own hands: the power to see it, know it, and own its story yourself, at home and on your terms. Built for every skin. Answerable to no one but you.

Our story

Lumeria (YC S26) is now backed by Y Combinator. Behind the technology are two founders who have lived this problem from very different angles.

What began as the worst nightmare of Anthea’s life became the reason Lumeria exists. In her sophomore year of college she developed a wound that would not heal. It took two months to see a doctor and five to see a dermatologist, and across those five months she was misdiagnosed four times. By the end her skin was covered in rashes and weeping nonstop; she became allergic to her own sweat and went three months barely sleeping because of the itch.

The hardest part was staying on prescription after prescription that showed no improvement, because there was no objective metric to tell her whether anything was working. She had seen it before: her sister grew up with eczema that took eight years to get under control and still flares today. The trigger turned out to be dust mites in the floor, something right in front of them that still took eight years to uncover.

Anthea and Maryanne are making sure this does not happen to a second person. Lumeria accelerates that trial-and-error process with its multispectral hardware and models, giving you objective monitoring and guidance to improve your skin care routine from home, so you can finally own your skin’s story.

Maryanne has loved skincare and beauty for as long as she can remember. As a lifestyle creator she went viral within a month, passing 10 million views, and earned more than $40,000 in three months from beauty content for brands like Bubble Skincare and Good Molecules. Her roots, though, are in biotech: she graduated high school at sixteen, and by eighteen had built a seven-time award-winning microfluidics device using miniaturized spectroscopy that she went on to exit.

She also cannot sit still in the face of a problem. After volunteering as a surgical assistant in Syria and seeing how little war-torn regions have to work with, she founded Blueprints for Pangaea at Berkeley, even engineering a self-assisted liver retractor for surgeons operating without an extra pair of hands. Of every problem she has thrown herself at, none has gripped her like this one. Maryanne first imagined Lumeria while shadowing dermatologists, then recruited the best cofounder she could find, Anthea, to build it with her.
